Woven Nest Counseling & Coaching Anti-Racism Commitment

We recognize the privilege we hold in being entrusted with the stories and experiences of our clients. We deeply value diverse voices and are committed to decentering white narratives and culture while elevating the experiences and wisdom of people of color. We approach the pain and distress of all clients within the context of historical forces, social structures, cultural dynamics, and an ongoing system of oppression.

We understand your pain and distress as vital feedback about your environment. The symptoms you may be experiencing are not inherent flaws, but reasonable responses to a society designed to perpetuate inequity by upholding hetero-patriarchy, ableist, capitalist, and white supremacist systems that deny access to true health and well-being for so many. These effects can manifest as discredited or decontextualized symptoms, and it is part of our therapeutic approach to reconnect, recontextualize, and move toward collective healing.

We acknowledge the mental health field's historical role as a covert system of regulation, defining wellness, health, pathology, and criminality in ways that perpetuate racism and inequality and prioritize certain types of healing. We are committed to dismantling this system and instead fostering a movement toward collective, holistic health, where actions promoting change are integral to mental health work.

We make a commitment to:

  • Engage in ongoing trainings that deepen our exploration of our own power, privilege, biases, and microaggressions, and facilitate our unlearning of racism.

  • Foster a curious yet accountable space for discussions about racial trauma, intergenerational trauma, and/or white supremacy with all our clients.

  • Practice action-taking and actively engage in social activism.

Our anti-racist and anti-oppressive work is continuous, and we are always striving to learn more, take action more effectively, and create more radical structures to support our clients and our community.
